Cygnet Hospital was established in 1988 and is a part of Cygnet Health Care. Cygnet Hospital is situated in four acres of grounds in a rural location providing a safe and tranquil environment as a backdrop to recovery from addiction. Each patient has their own private en-suite bedroom with communal areas available.

Cygnet Hospital works with a wide range of addictions, addictive behaviours and associated mental health issues. The team includes consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors, therapists, nurses and health care assistants providing patients with the support they need in order to break the damaging cycle of addictive behaviour.

The aim of Cygnet Hospital is to help each individual to achieve abstinence from alcohol and reach a sense of personal fulfilment and an enhanced quality of life.

Types of Treatment Programmes Cygnet Hospital Offers

An initial assessment will identify whether a detoxification programme is necessary. Patients will be monitored on the detoxification ward where 24 hour medical supervision is available and 15 minute observations are carried out. When assessed as ready, the patient will be transferred to the Addiction Treatment Unit to participate in the full therapy programme.

The Therapy Programme at Cygnet Hospital is structured to provide a safe and supportive environment for the patient and is provided by trained professional therapists and counsellors. In order to achieve abstinence from mind altering substances, therapies on offer include an integrated model of cognitive therapy based on the 12 Steps, group therapy, one to one sessions with a key worker, lectures, audio visual aids and written assignments.

The centre also recognises that the family is very often affected by addiction and therefore encourages their participation, along with the patient, in family therapy sessions. This will allow the therapist to look at and discuss, any issues that are pertinent to the patient’s recovery. However much these sessions are encouraged, they will only ever be undertaken providing that the patient is agreeable to do so.

Confidentiality is treated with importance and it is on this foundation that the development of trust, hope, acceptance and change can be achieved and built upon. All therapies are designed to provide a safe environment where the patient can explore their situation and gain awareness of, and insight into, the process of recovery.
