Alcohol treatment 'can help curtail domestic violence'
People who undergo treatment for drug and
alcohol abuse disorders may benefit in their home life as well, experts have said.
A report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) found that alcohol consumption plays a major role in domestic violence, and that violence tends to be more severe and more likely to result in physical injury when the attacker has been drinking.
According to experts, these facts provide another important reason for
alcoholics to seek treatment, as successful
alcohol rehabilitation can go a long way to reducing the incidence of domestic violence.
Ryan Thorpe, a spokesman for Narconon Arrowhead, said: "There is an obvious correlation between substance abuse issues and domestic violence.
Mr Thorpe added that following alcohol rehabilitation, "not only are many more people able to enjoy lives substance-free, but they also can live successfully and without conflict and domestic violence".
Estimates suggest that 250,000 men and 67,500 women would reduce their drinking levels from hazardous and harmful to low-risk each year if simple alcohol advice was consistently implemented across the UK.
