Rehab 'definitely worth it', says former patient

Attending a residential rehabilitation centre for an eating disorder, drug addiction or alcoholism can be a painful experience, but it is definitely worth it, a former patient has claimed.

Cath Dombrowski, 42, attended a rehab centre in Sydney, Australia, and is adamant that the experience saved her life.

Ms Dombrowski spent seven weeks at the centre and told the Sun Herald: "Being able to walk around crying for no reason in particular and nobody judging you or telling you to get over it is very powerful."

However, she pointed out that rehab is not a quick fix and is certainly not an easy experience.

"People expect you to go into rehab and come out all fixed, all better, but that's not how it works," she explained.

"It's very painful, it's very confronting, it's hard being honest with yourself about things you've done but it's definitely worth it."

Home Office figures suggest that around 1.1 million people in England are dependent on alcohol and would benefit from alcohol treatment.
