Wrestling superstars offered free alcohol treatment
Former performers with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) are being offered free drug and
alcohol treatment, it has emerged.
The company is reportedly offering its ex-performers the chance to stop drinking in a bid to prevent deaths resulting from
alcoholism.
In a letter to performers, WWE offers to pay for "drug and/or alcohol rehabilitation at a certified treatment [centre] chosen by WWE for any performer with a prior WWE booking contract who may need this service".
The company also urges ex-performers who know someone else with an alcohol problem to "try to help them by encouraging them to take advantage of this opportunity".
According to Newsday reports, the letter has been sent to over 500 wrestlers after chairman Vincent McMahon decided to do so "as a humanitarian gesture".
WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt told Newsday in a statement that the company is seeking to help those "who want to help themselves but lack the resources to pay for rehabilitation".
