Drug use in the news

Drug use and rehab are big news in the UK, with reports continuously being generated about government plans to tackle the problem of drug abuse.  However, it seems that no matter what plans the government can work out, individuals who are determined will always find a way around legal restraints.  A recent story from BBC News (2012) reports a new way for drug users to achieve a 'legal' high using chemicals that the government have not yet outlawed. 

This new form of drug use has been heavily criticised by a facility that provides drug rehab. UK residents are being warned that these chemicals have not been tested and are as potentially dangerous as any other illicit drug available on the market.

Incidents such as this, show that the government schemes that aim to reduce drug use will have to update as fast as the drugs industry does.  It also shows that in the future new alterations will have to be implemented in facilities that offer rehabs UK wide.  As drug use changes, the way we aim to tackle drug use will also have to adjust to keep up.  It makes providing residential rehab a more intricate business than ever before as new developments will have to made quicker than ever.

In many ways it also highlights the importance of regular research into drug and alcohol abuse, and how news ways to understand the disease as well as new techniques to enhance treatment at rehabs are essential as the drug culture changes in such drastic ways.
